چکیده

Efficient water use is the key for sustainable management of water resources. The major reason of non-efficient management of water resources, especially in developing countries, is nonavailability of reliable hydrological information about the actual water used by different agricultural crops with in a large irrigation system or at the basin scale. Therefore, an estimation of spatially distributed crop water consumption is important and challenging to determine water balance at different scales to promote efficient management of water resources. Remote sensing data can resolve difficulties in determining water balance due to scientific developments in the calculation of spatially distributed actual evapotranspiration. In this study, seven TERRA/MODIS satellite images were used on different dates (April 06, May 31, June 12, July 12, August 23, September 22, and October 24) during the summer cropping season of 2002 over Liuyuankou Irrigation System (LIS) located along the Yellow River basin of China.

Estimation of Actual Evapotranspiration, Water productivity, and Irrigation Efficiency of Wheat Fields in Surface and Sprinkler Irrigation Systems Using Remote Sensing

In arid and semi-arid regions, water resource management and optimization of applying irrigation water are particularly important. For optimization of applying irrigation water, the estimated values of actual evapotranspiration are necessary for avoiding excessive or inadequate applying water. The estimation of actual crop evapotranspiration is not possible in large areas using the traditional ...

Application of a Remote Sensing Method for Estimating Monthly Blue Water Evapotranspiration in Irrigated Agriculture

In this paper we show the potential of combining actual evapotranspiration (ETactual) series obtained from remote sensing and land surface modelling, to monitor community practice in irrigation at a monthly scale. This study estimates blue water evapotranspiration (ETb) in irrigated agriculture in two study areas: the Horn of Africa (2010–2012) and the province of Sichuan (China) (2001–2010). B...

Mapping the Irrigation Area of Winter Wheat Farmland in North China Plain Using Modis Remote Sensing Data

North China Plain is one of the most important agricultural regions in China with severe challenges of water shortage. Agriculture in the plain is very intensive. Farming in the region is a typical irrigation-supported system of winter wheat, followed by summer maize. Other important crops in the region include cotton, potatoes, soybean and various vegetables. Cultivation of these crops require...

Characteristics of water consumption in water-saving winter wheat and effects on the utilization of subsequent summer rainfall in the North China Plain

Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grows in dry season but summer maize (Zea mays L.) coincides with rainfall in the North China Plain (NCP). Increasing rainfall use efficiency and harmonizing its utilization between the two species is an effective way to mitigate impact on groundwater deriving from wheat irrigation. One to four times water supply (W1, to W4) were employed in wheat, three wate...
